You’ve heard the excuse, “Well, they haven’t played anybody.” Well, there’s a way to figure that out. Over the next five days, we’ll look at how each Power 5 conference school fares against ranked teams.
Today, a closer at how Big 12 teams have fared against ranked teams since 2009, according to StatsPass.com. 1. Oklahoma: 17-10, .630 2. Oklahoma State: 11-8, .579 3. TCU: 8-8, .500 4. West Virginia: 6-8, .429 5. Kansas State: 6-11, .353 6. Baylor: 7-13, .350 7. Texas: 7-16, .304 8. Texas Tech: 6-15, .286 9. Iowa State: 4-19, .174 10. Kansas: 1-16, .059
BEST: Oklahoma. When you play for the Sooners, you’re going to play a lot of games against a lot of good teams. Bob Stoops has handled that pressure. The Sooners are 10-6 against ranked Big 12 teams and 7-4 against nonconference opponents.
WORST: Kansas. The Jayhawks shocked No. 15 Georgia Tech in a 28-25 upset on Sept. 11, 2010. Kansas, however, is 0-8 against ranked teams under Charlie Weis, and they’ve been outscored 358-118 in those losses.
EYE-OPENER: Texas. That record is flat-out bad. The Longhorns had a nine-game losing streak against ranked teams from 2010-12 and went 1-4 against Top 25 teams in 2013. Of course, that one win was a 36-20 surprise against rival Oklahoma. Still, Charlie Strong has to be better than this.
