Snapchat for Web Rolls Out to All Users
Snapchat announced the rollout as part of its 15 September Fall feature update on the Snap newsroom. Rather than a standalone announcement, the full rollout of Snapchat for Web was introduced alongside features such as chat shortcuts and question stickers.
The web version of the social media app was first announced in July 2022, but as an exclusive for Snapchat+ users. Considering Snapchat has been bolstering its premium offering, the full rollout of Snapchat for Web should be welcome news to users. The new features come shortly following the introduction of a Dual Camera feature for Snapchat.
How Snapchat for Web Works
Users can now sign in to their profile on web.snapchat.com. When logging in, you will need to confirm your login attempt using the smartphone app. Once logged in, you will see the web app interface.
Snapchat notes that its web version differs from its mobile app in several key ways. The first major difference is that while you can send Snaps on the web platform, you can only view them through the mobile app. The user-interface is also different from the mobile app.
As Snapchat notes in its privacy policy for different products:
However, you are able to chat with your Snapchat friends and make calls through the web. Snapchat also takes particular note of the ability for users to screenshot Snaps and posts using the web version.
If you’re calling someone on Web, you’ll only have access to a selected set of Lenses, and not all creative tools may be available to you. And, if you receive a Snap, you won’t yet be able to view it on Snapchat for Web, you’ll have to use the Snapchat app for that.
Connect on Snapchat Using Your PC
Snapchat for Web brings an easily accessible web platform to the suite of Snap products. For users who prefer to type on their computers, the rollout will be welcome news.
