How To Play Wordle

Wordle was originally created by an independent developer. After it went viral in early 2022, the New York Times purchased it and moved it over to its Games website. Wordle is now also playable through the New York Times Crossword app. There are tons of other versions of Wordle, but this is the original and the subject of this article.

In order to play, players will first need to choose a great starting word. But in order to pick the perfect word, players will first need to know the rules that Wordle answers follow.

Wordle answers are always five letters long and real English words. They cannot be plural nouns ending in S or ES, though these can be used as guesses. Wordle answers are now themed, so if there is a holiday, the word will most likely have something to do with it. Answers don’t repeat. Good starting words should have a variety of common letters in them.

Type the starting word into the site or app and press enter. The letters will then change colors.

Green letters are right. Gray letters are wrong. Yellow letters are right but in the wrong position of the word.

Players have six total tries to get to the answer. Puzzles reset daily at midnight local time.
